Working in Partnership

attendees at nwda agm

The NWDA supports and funds a number of projects and schemes in order to deliver the Regional Economic Strategy. These projects and schemes are largely delivered by public and private sector partners at a sub-regional level.

We work with a wide range of regional delivery partners, including local authorities, community and voluntary groups and the private sector. We also fund some delivery partners directly, who deliver elements of the Regional Economic Strategy on our behalf.

Strategic Partnerships

4NW - The Regional Leaders’ Forum

The Regional Leaders’ Forum for the Northwest, 4NW has responsibility for housing, planning, transport and economic development.

The NWDA is working with 4NW to prepare a new single Regional Strategy, which combines the Regional Economic Strategy, the Regional Spatial Strategy and the Regional Housing Strategy. This new strategy is called RS2010.

Government Office for the Northwest

The representative of central Government in the region, Government Office for the Northwest (GONW) works with organisations across the region to deliver Government policies and programmes and to contribute a regional perspective in their development.

The NWDA works closely with GONW on a number of projects, including the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF), Equality Strategy and the Rural Development Programme for England (RDPE).

The Northern Way

A partnership between the NWDA, Yorkshire Forward and ONE North East - the three northern Regional Development Agencies - The Northern Way initiative brings the cities and regions of the North of England together to work to improve the sustainable economic development of the North towards the level of more prosperous regions.

Business Partnerships

Business Link Northwest

Funded by the NWDA, Business Link Northwest offers a free impartial business information and advice service.

Business Cluster Organisations

Regeneration Partnerships

Sub-Regional Partnerships

The Northwest currently has five Sub-Regional Partnerships:

The NWDA supports these Sub-Regional Partnerships to lead economic development within their Sub-Regions and City Regions and identify economic priorities which will deliver the Regional Economic Strategy. The Sub-Regional Partnerships bring together businesses, public sector organisations, and voluntary and community groups.

Urban Regeneration Companies

Working with Local Authorities and the Homes & Communities Agency (HCA), the NWDA has established four Urban Regeneration Companies:

Urban Regeneration Companies are independent companies that seek to achieve the physical transformation of their areas through masterplans and co-ordinating financial assistance to developers, from both the public and private sector.

Economic Development Companies

The NWDA has assisted in the development of the region’s first Economic Development Company, Liverpool Vision.

Liverpool Vision’s role as an Economic Development Company is to integrate economic and physical development and business and enterprise support. Its aim is to assist the economic growth of the area governed by Liverpool City Council, so the City Region’s economy can compete more effectively in international markets.

The region has a number of emerging Economic Development Companies, including Pennine Lancashire and Fylde Coast, the latter of which is likely to replace ReBlackpool.
